This trip was 1.5 years in the making. We had our campsite booked for our 2020 spring break trip, but unfortunately due to COVID, we had to cancel our 2020 plans. We were extremely excited to hit the beach this year! Last years disappointments made us realize how lucky we are to be able to travel and spend family time together. This was the perfect trip to really stop and appreciate all of our blessings. Camping We stayed at Myrtle Beach State Park. This is one of the few noncommercialized spots in the area. Our campsite was wooded, private, and plenty big enough. There is not oceanside camping, however, it is a short walk to a beautiful beach. The park also offers a great fishing pier. Fishing
Shells and Shark Teeth and More Everyday we had a blast looking for shells and shark teeth. We were also lucky enough to find lots of starfish, a couple jellyfish, a horseshoe crab, hermit crabs, and also a few dolphins! We visited Huntington Beach State Park and we were even able to see a few alligators in the marsh! Huntington Beach State Park is also known for its many varieties of birds, so we did see quite a few different bird there as well. The Beaches
Hanging out at the beach was definitely our favorite thing to do! We had a few days of perfect beach weather. The kids loved playing in the waves, playing spikeball, frisbee, and trying their luck with the metal detector. I loved the gorgeous sunrises and sunsets and just relaxing! Finding shells, sharks teeth, and sea life was also something out of the ordinary for us and we spent hours just scouring the beach for treasures. Dogs are allowed on the beaches which was really cool. Unfortunately our webbed foot Willow hates the water. She spent one beach day with us and she seemed to like digging in the sand. Then we got her too close to water and she pulled out of her collar and took off. Once she got away from the water she stopped and waited for Travis, but that was the last of her beach days! We spent most of the time at the beach at Myrtle Beach State Park, but we also visited Huntington Beach State Park and Pawleys Island. All three were great! If you are looking for remote, definitely check out Pawleys Island, it was definitely off the beaten path. You drive over a causeway and drive on narrow roads to the south end of the Island which is where you will find the public parking and beach. It would be a great spot to get away from crowds!
